IFD President's Welcome
Since our Annual General Meeting in September 2018, in Cape Town, South Africa, we continue to work for Denturists worldwide.
Reflecting over the past year, the IFD continues to support Denturists recognition worldwide. Through various initiatives, the IFD is providing information to empower Denturists to obtain recognition. We communicate our commitment. To remain relevant and respected by denturists, our communication focus is on raising the awareness of our country members, as well as industry partners for International Federation of Denturists commitment and achievements. Our website is at the heart of our communication strategies. It is supported by social media Facebook. Our Newsletter is designed to promote our profession and incite people to do more about his evolution.
At our meeting, we learned what is happening in each of our member countries. We discussed significant political issues with our colleagues. We are also trying to get feedback from the initiatives to gain recognition in other countries. IFD must continue to be at legislator face and let them know all the advantages that Denturists can bring to the populations!
The IFD is receiving support from thre Diamond Sponsors since 2016: Vita, Ivoclar Vivadent and Candulor. We really appreciate these organizationa; they are our white knights!
The IFD is registered on the EU Transparency Register, in section II as in-house lobbyists and as trade / business / professional association. It may have a significant ripple effect that could spark other reforms within the European Union (EU) and globally about the Denturism profession.
Mr. Colum Sower from Republic of Ireland who became our European Committee chairman during our annual general meeting, will represent us at Association for Dental Education in Europe (ADEE). IFD establish an acceptance by them that Denturists are a professionally trained and educated category, providing health services at a mutually professional level where the public health interests are served. IFD have a forum that can open doors to communicate as regulated peers, serving together as Oral Health professionals. It is a breakthrough for IFD to be accepted by ADEE.
The great news event of last months is Portugal joining as a new member country! They are already involved in helping us with some of the EU regulations. We will also help Portugal that does not have legislation allowing the profession of Denturism.
As Urban Christen Mendez said: Our target should be to push the Dentists more in to the role of “just another stakeholder” like us and wake up all the authorities to see this in the same way. We don’t let them have the role of the “regulatory board”. As I said some years ago: “there is no Monopoly of oral health”. To do all this we need persons with interest and motivation, reacting quick and working forward.
IFD will also be involved with European Union Affairs Adviser to the European Commission for ESCO (European Skills/competences, qualification and Occupations) and other related projects. Our classification is:
3 Technicians and Associate Professionals
32 Health Associate Professionals
3214 Medical and dental prosthetic technicians
Currently in South Africa, the Society for Clinical Dental Technology (SCDT) and Duffy Malherbe are working very hard for possible recognition of Denturists, incessant work and time is the requirement for their success! We were there to demonstrate our support to their cause. Duffy Malherbe is our new brother of Sterkenburger. How much time and work incessantly, it will take to get success! IFD will support South Africa Denturists for the achievement of their objectives.
John Rogan represents Australian Dental Prosthetics Association (ADPA) and work to organize our great experience next year in Brisbane, Australia. ADPA 2019, Tuesday 19 to Friday 23 August.
The IFD must continue to face all legislators and convince them of all the advantages that Denturists bring to the people of all countries! In my presidential mandate, I shared my passion for the recognition of our profession. I am also strongly committed to promoting communication initiatives.
We, as the International Federation of Denturists,
- Hope to work for Denturists world-wide to help get the knowledge to empower Denturists to get the recognition they deserve.
- Work on our goal now and forever, the advancement of the profession of Denturists on a world-wide basis.
- Want to improve the visibility of Denturism so that Denturists' services and caring are more readily known and available.
